Enshrouded on Steam Deck: Verified Status and Patch History

Published October 25, 2026

Short version: As of Oct 25, 2026, Valve rates Enshrouded Steam Deck Verified: four checks pass, plus one note that external controllers aren't supported for the primary player. Keen announced the badge on Oct 23, after 1.0. Keen's Steam posts name the Deck in four updates since June 2024; the 1.0 notes cut shader compile time after updates and reset custom button bindings once.

Short answer: as of Oct 25, 2026, Valve lists Enshrouded as Steam Deck Verified. Keen Games announced it on Oct 23, 2026, eight days after 1.0: “we got news from Valve that Enshrouded 1.0 was Steam Deck Verified!” If you last set the game up on Deck before 1.0, check your button bindings: the 1.0 notes say custom bindings were reset to default.

What Valve says today

On Oct 24, 2026, Steam’s Deck compatibility data for Enshrouded returned the Verified category. In Valve’s review criteria, Verified means the game passes all of Valve’s compatibility checks and players don’t need to change any settings to reach all of the game.

Valve’s report for the game lists these items:

Item in Valve’s reportResultWhat the check covers (our summary of Valve’s criteria)
Default controller configuration fully functionalPassThe default controls let you reach all of the game’s content
Controller glyphs match the DeckPassOn-screen button prompts match the controller you’re using
Interface text is legiblePassText on screen is easy to read on the Deck
Default configuration is performantPassValve lists this check as passed; the report gives no frame-rate figure
External controllers not supported as the primary playerInformational noteNot part of the pass list

We filled in the Result column from the item names in Steam’s compatibility data. The data gives each item a type number, not the words “Pass” or “Informational note”.

Before 1.0: when we checked the same Valve data on Oct 3, 2026, it listed Enshrouded as Unsupported, with graphics performance as the reason. We didn’t save a copy of that response, so take it as our check, not a quote. Keen’s Oct 23 post ties the new badge to version 1.0. Neither Valve’s report nor Keen’s post says on what day Valve re-tested the game.

What this means on Deck: Valve’s report passes the default controller configuration and the on-screen button prompts, so per Valve no setup work is needed to reach the whole game. If you plug in an external controller, Valve’s note says it isn’t supported as the primary player’s controller. The report doesn’t say more than that, and we haven’t tested it.

DatePostWhat the notes say about Deck or handhelds
Jun 5, 2024Melodies of the Mire“Enshrouded has been further optimized for the Steam Deck.”
Jul 29, 2024Back to the Shroud“Improved stability and performance on lower hardware specs and on the Steam Deck.” and “Updated the default settings for the Steam Deck. Please use the “Reset to Default” button to use the updated settings.”
Nov 5, 2024Souls of the Frozen Frontier“The VFX shader compiling has been moved to the start of the game for the Steam Deck. This means that the first start after an update will take longer.”
Oct 14, 20261.0 changelog (pre-launch post)“Improved performance on handheld devices, low-end graphics cards and the Steam Deck.”
Oct 23, 2026Steam Deck verified post“we got news from Valve that Enshrouded 1.0 was Steam Deck Verified!”

None of the three 1.0 hotfixes (1.0.0.1 to 1.0.0.3, Oct 15 to Oct 21, 2026) mention the Deck or handhelds. For what each hotfix changed, see which hotfixes need a dedicated server update.

Old advice vs now

Three Deck-related topics in Keen’s notes, and what the 1.0 changelog says about each:

What older notes saidWhat the 1.0 notes say (Oct 14, 2026)What to do now
Slow first launch after an updateNov 2024: shader compiling moved to the start on Deck, so “the first start after an update will take longer”“Significantly reduced the VFX shader compilation time at the start of the game after updating the game or the GPU driver. A small amount of compilation time is unavoidable, however.”Per Keen, some compile time is still unavoidable after a game or GPU driver update. Keen gives no number for how long
Deck default settingsJul 2024: Keen updated the Deck defaults and asked players to press “Reset to Default”“Updated the list of graphics settings presets for the automatic GPU detection system.” The line doesn’t name the DeckKeen didn’t say whether the Deck defaults changed in 1.0. Valve’s report says the default settings perform well
Your button bindingsNot covered in the Deck lines“Please note that these updates made it necessary to reset custom bindings to the default for the update. Please check your settings before venturing out.”If you remapped controls before 1.0, check them again

We don’t list frame rates or “best settings” here. Neither Keen nor Valve publishes Deck frame rates for Enshrouded, and we haven’t measured any.

What’s next

Keen’s Oct 23 post ends with: “We’ll be back next week with more fixes and improvements.” It doesn’t say whether those fixes touch the Deck. We’ll update this page if a new patch note adds Deck lines or Valve’s rating changes.
