Editorial & AI Policy
Patch Notebook tracks updates and technical problems in Early Access co-op and survival games on Steam. This page explains exactly where our information comes from and what we do — and don't do — with it.
Every page cites its sources
- Every article lists the public sources it relies on, with a link you can open and the date we last checked it.
- If we can't point to a public source for a claim, we don't publish that claim. We don't guess version numbers, values or dates.
Two kinds of pages
Patch breakdowns (official data)
Built from the developer's own patch notes and Steam store data. We don't just repost patch notes: every breakdown has a before/after table and a plain-English note on what each change means for players. If we can't add that, we don't publish the page.
Fixes and how-tos (community data)
Crash fixes, save problems, dedicated server and crossplay steps are compiled from public community reports. Each one is backed by at least two independent public sources and carries a clear label: Community-verified, not personally tested. We do not play-test these steps ourselves.
How we use AI
We use AI tools to help collect public patch notes, compare versions, and draft text. Every published claim must trace back to a cited source; drafts that can't are dropped. We limit how much we publish each week so every page gets checked, and we don't mass-produce pages.
Images
- We don't use official game art, store images or screenshots from Steam or press kits. We haven't confirmed that publishers' fan content rules allow ad-supported use, so we leave them out.
- We never present AI-generated images as game screenshots. Any AI image on this site is labelled AI-generated illustration.
- Charts and tables are made by us from the cited data.
What we don't cover
No cheats, exploits, trainers, private servers, cracks or pirated copies. No datamined content from publishers who prohibit it.
Outdated information
Early Access games change fast. When a later patch makes a page wrong, we mark it as outdated at the top and point to the newer information, rather than leaving it to mislead.
Corrections
Found an error, or a patch we missed? Email contact@patchnotebook.com with the page link and a source. We fix confirmed errors and update the "last checked" date.
Independence
Patch Notebook is an independent fan resource. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Valve, Steam, or any developer or publisher of the games we cover. Game titles and trademarks belong to their owners.
